Apprentice Line Worker SELCO Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations (SELCO) seeks an Apprentice Line Worker to assist in the installation, repair and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical lines and equipment. GENERAL SUMMARY: Under supervision of the Working Foreman, Lead Line and / or 1st Class Lineworker, assist in the installation, repair and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical lines and equipment. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: In conformance with Department procedures and safety regulations, assist lineman in the erection, installation, repair and maintenance of all non-primary electrical lines and equipment. Climb poles or utilize aerial lift equipment to observe and assist with overhead line work. Operate electrical testing equipment under supervision and utilize a variety of hand and power tools. Perform manual labor duties as requested in support of underground installation, repair and maintenance operations. Perform routine repairs and maintenance to house services and street lighting system under supervision of a lineman. Accept scheduled overtime work on a rotating basis. Ability to respond to all emergency repair calls and for other Department emergencies. Stocks and cleans vehicles and equipment Climbs poles, ladders, structures, building, etc Learn rope knot tying, splicing and equipment Learn proper operations of vehicles and equipment Must have excellent communication skills when dealing with employees and the general public. Perform other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Duties require basic knowledge of electrical theory and distribution. Must maintain and possess as a condition of employment, a valid Class A driver's license. If the individual does not have a Class A license upon hire, it must be attained prior to the completion of the probationary period. Must possess a Hoisting License, or be in the process of acquiring one. Work requires three months of related experience. Required to reside in the Town of Shrewsbury or no more than a thirty (30) minute drive to Municipal Drive; or make suitable arrangements with the Line Supervisor to be available at a location serviced by a telephone in Shrewsbury or a contiguous town at times when the employee is on-call. INDEPENDENT ACTION: Under supervision, perform duties in accordance with verbal instructions and established procedures. Work assignments and training schedules are established by the Working Foreman Lineman. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: All work performed in accordance with departmental and regulatory safety standards.
