Data Services Technician - Apprentice 4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars JOB SUMMARY: This position may report to either Newcastle, WY OR Sundance, WY. Under the oversight of the Plant Supervisor, the Data Services Technician - Apprentice will learn and be responsible for the installation and maintenance of telecommunications services, cabling, customer premise equipment (CPE), field equipment and terminals. Responsibilities extend to troubleshooting, isolating, and performing the necessary repairs on defective equipment in the network. Perform installation and assist with maintenance functions, Information Technology (IT) services, battery testing carrier systems and assisting with non-regulated equipment. Coordinates with other departments on service installations and updates changes for company records (billing, facility, etc.). Documenting and completing project related forms on all installations and repair services rendered. Monitors alarm systems to maintain equipment, and communicates updates, changes or problems to key contacts and impacted customers. This role participates in a scheduled on-call rotation / emergency response during evenings and weekend hours, remaining in area and available to respond and perform work outside of normal business hours is required while on-call. Work-related travel is expected in this position and may be extensive. ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS: 1) Install and Transfer Services: a. Performs installation of new services for voice, data, special circuits, ethernet, as well as other non-regulated services Range offers. b. Review staking sheets or maps to install services as designed by Network Engineer. c. Perform work with appropriate tools / hardware to meet all applicable codes and safety requirements. d. Installation and maintenance: i. Services: Voice, broadband, special circuits, ethernet and other customer premise services provided by Range. ii. Cabling: Install, repair and maintain copper or fiber cables in an aerial or buried application and terminate cables using industry standards. iii. Install subscriber carrier systems, including digital, analog, and next generation carrier systems. iv. Ability to work aloft. 2) Repair and Maintain Plant equipment: a. Perform repairs on defective buried cables and may excavate existing copper or fiber cables, as required, to repair damaged or aging facilities. May be assigned to locate / mark telecommunication facilities in the area and set up safety precautions in preparation for digging. b. Perform repairs on aerial cable with the use of ladders or bucket truck and set up safety precautions as needed. c. Coordinate with other technical personnel to diagnose or identify and locate defective equipment. Must be able to read and interpret cable schematics. Required to make repairs or work with other personnel to ensure repairs have been made and network stability is restored. d. Perform repairs in access /transport carrier systems and other department related equipment utilizing specialized test equipment. e. Utilize copper and fiber testing equipment to analyze and identify areas needing upgrades or repairs. f. Battery testing and maintenance in data centers, communication shelters and remote carrier systems. g. Perform basic building maintenance and repairs to include HVAC systems, generators. Coordinate repairs with professional contractor if the extent of repairs is beyond the technical ability required for the position. 3) Paperwork and records: Professionally complete all installation and repair-related forms and reports. File and submit accordingly within assigned timeframes. a. Communicate with other departments on service installations/repairs delivered and advise on necessary updates for billing, facility records, and other company files. 4) Install wireless equipment including point-to-point wireless systems, wireless access points, security cameras, PBX equipment and wiring for the equipment. 5) Monitor alarm systems to maintain equipment and communicate problems that affect company operations / services and impact customers. 6) Meeting and maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations across all areas of this role's functions are an expectation and key objective. 7) Must follow all company safety policies / procedures, and always use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). 8) Uphold and demonstrate your commitment to Range's values in everything you do. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION): (A combination of demonstrable years' experience and applicable alternative training(s) may be considered in lieu of the following qualifications). a) Successful completion of a High-School diploma program or GED curriculum / exam (12th grade equivalent) or any other state recognized secondary education program. b) A minimum of 2 years of work experience performing telecommunications data services related functions is preferred. c) A valid, state issued, and insurable driver's license. NOTE: Some areas may require pole and tower climbing certificates which will be outlined during offer of position. Preferred: Completion of one or more of the following certifications: Class A CDL Tower Certification Pole Certification Technical School, a 2-year / associate degree (in Electronics, Telecommunications, Radio, and/or Construction).
