<div>Apprentices learn their craft by training on the job (paid) under proper supervision and by studying technical subjects related to the roofing trade at the training center. Once apprentices have learned the practical and technical aspects of the work, they graduate to journeyperson status.</div><div>Roofers Local 188 represents members in Northern West Virginia and East-Central Ohio who apply all types of roofing and waterproofing systems, including but not limited to: all low-sloped roofing systems, structural waterproofing, steep-sloped roofing systems and air barrier applications.</div><div>Our goal is to provide the safest and best-trained roofers in the industry for our signatory contractors with an emphasis on training, safety and cooperation.</div><div>Roofing apprenticeship programs generally run for three years with a total of 420 classroom hours and 6,000 work hours.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><p data-name='heading'><b>Responsibilities</b></p><div> Perform diligently and faithfully the work of the occupation and other pertinent duties assigned by the employer.</div><div><br></div><div>Respect the property of the employer and abide by the working rules and regulations of the employer, union and the JATC.</div><div> </div><div> Attend and satisfactorily complete the required hours in the OJL and in related instruction in subjects related to the occupation.</div><div> </div><div>Maintain and make available such records of work experience and training received on-the-job and in related instruction.</div><div> </div><div>Develop and practice safe working habits and work in such a manner as to assure his/her personal safety and that of fellow workers.</div><div> </div><div>Work for the employer to whom the apprentice is assigned for the completion of apprenticeship, unless reassigned to another employer or the Apprenticeship Agreement is terminated by the JATC.</div><div> </div><div><br></div><p data-name='heading'><b>Skills</b></p><div>No skills are required as this is an apprentice program and you learn as you go.</div><div>However reading a tape measure, and identification and knowledge of working different tools is a plus. </div><div>Ability to withstand different climates and temperatures.</div><p data-name='heading'><b>Qualifications</b></p><ul><li>Must be at least 18 years of age. Under limited supervision, will act as a working crew leader, leading a crew participating in Heavy Maintenance or Bridge Departments.
